CHANUTE The 39th annual Laver family reunion was Sunday at the Central Park Pavilion in Chanute.
Gregory Scott Barker said Grace before 102 family members enjoyed an old-fashioned basket luncheon. The main dish of barbecued smoked pulled pork, was furnished by the committee, and prepared by Donna (Laver) Krokstrom.
The committee for 2019 was Gregory Scott Barker, Dennis and Sherry Venable, Wilma Jean (Laver) Nelson and Donna (Laver) Krokstrom.
Special recognition went to Albert Barker, 88, the oldest male; Ethylene Venable, 84, the olest female; Oliver Green, 2, the youngest male; Rilynn Webb, 2, youngest female; Merle and Imogene Brooks, married longest at 60 years; Jake and Ashley Webb, married most recent at four years; and Tammy Goodwin, Austin, Texas, who traveled the farthest.
A special call came from Brian Laver, informing the group his dad, Edwin Eugene Gene Laver, Moran, returned home from the hospital and was unable to attend.
Hazel Laver, 98, Parsons, is the oldest member of the Laver family, and also was unable to attend. Sharon (Allen) Compton of Chanute was in the hospital in Wichita. Her immediate family (kids, grandkids and great-grandkids) were in attendance for the first time in 40 years.
