The Kappa Alpha Chapter, Phi Tau Omega Sorority met April 1 at Iola’s Community National Bank.

National President, Marilyn Paul, sent a letter to remind the 15 members to plan for the national convention June 28-30 in West Des Moines, Iowa. Paul praised the chapters for their continued efforts to uphold Phi Tau Omega’s national platform, “Feeding the Hungry.”  Paul also recognized Kappa Alpha’s 41 years as a part of Phi Tau Omega.

The local chapter collected canned goods again this month for the Iola Community Pantry, and gave a gas card to a cancer patient.

One-hundred bags filled with hygiene products were distributed to the grade schools in March. Kappa Alpha will help with the April 28 Sunday Soups meal at Iola’s First Presbyterian Church.

A money-making project was planned. Members also voted to donate $200 to the Allen County Relay For Life, scheduled for noon June 1 in downtown Iola.

Trunks of Treasures, a fundraiser for the Cancer Fund, is planned for May 11, in which various treasures, clothing and baked goods will be sold from each member’s car trunks. A site will be announced later.

Collene Ellis and Gwen Tefft will host the next social on Monday.

The next business meeting will be at 7 p.m. May 6 at Community National Bank. Connie Rutledge and Lori Ensminger will host.
