When Iolan Donna Houser approached City Council members Monday about her concerns regarding overnight parking in downtown Iola, she was not speaking on behalf of apartment or business owners, as was erroneously reported in the Register.

“I was acting on behalf of the people who come to our town, and who stay at the lovely apartments downtown, and get a ticket,” Houser said in an email. “I would hate to have people who are here for a day or a week or a month to say, ‘Well, the one thing I can tell you is Iola isn’t very receptive to people visiting.’”

The owners had nothing to do with her comments, Houser added.

Council members have agreed to investigate further the city’s downtown parking rules, including whether exceptions could be made for tenants in town on a short-term basis.
