Vandals defaced three places on South Colborn overnight Wednesday, including a home, car and a stop sign as well as a vehicle on North Cottonwood, Iola police reported. A victim, who requested anonymity, said that in the 47 years he and his wife have lived at their residence this was their first experience with vandalism. “It looks like bad people were out doing bad things,” he said. Iolan Joseph Liam Briggs, 323 S. Cottonwood St., is facing four charges of criminal damage to property in connection with a round of vandalism along South Colborn Street Feb. 15.

The charges were filed this week in Allen County District Court.

Iola police officers said a house, two vehicles and a stop sign were sprayed with paint.

The case was not believed connected to other vandalism reports around that same time at Iola’s Riverside Park. Juveniles were believed responsible for the other vandalism, officers said.

Briggs is scheduled to appear in court on April 5.
