Iola Public Library will host a book signing and author program for author Heidi Crane, a native of Iola, on Monday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.  She is the author of a book for children, “Amazing Grace.”  The book is about a cat who helps Mom through a difficult time and is based on the author’s own experience with a cat.  Crane grew up in Iola and now lives in Springfield, MO, where she and her husband Erik are owners of CPI Technologies (formerly Copy Products, Inc.).

“Nancy Frocks: Made to Wear Anywhere” will be presented on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. For more than 60 years H. L. Miller and Son, locally known as “the dress factory,” sold women’s clothing nation-wide and employed hundreds of Allen Countians, mostly women. They started in the 1930s with a good print dress selling for $1 and expanded with career-wear as times changed. But the mainstay was that simple cotton dress labeled “A Nancy Frock Made to Wear Anywhere.” Owners Ed and Betty Miller and former employees recount this chapter of local history.

Wednesday, Feb. 12, will be a Couples Night showing of “Crazy Rich Asians” at 6 p.m. The film is a Critics Choice Movie Award winner for Best Comedy. Rachel Chu is happy to accompany her longtime boyfriend, Nick, to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. She’s also surprised to learn that Nick’s family is extremely wealthy and he’s considered one of the country’s most eligible bachelors. Thrust into the spotlight, Rachel must now contend with jealous socialites, quirky relatives and something far, far worse — Nick’s disapproving mother.  Drinks and snacks will be provided.

The February Pinterest Party is on Monday, February 24 at 6:00 p.m. Participants will make terra cotta coasters.  Pre-registration and a fee of $3 are required by Feb. 21.
