Second grade students at Jefferson Elementary School exercise during a “Food & Field Olympics” April 20 as the culmination of a yearlong nutrition project. Nutrition educator Terri Kretzmeier with Southwind Extension District said the students have been learning about nutrition and the olympic-style events were meant to provide a fun reminder of the importance of physical activities. The students learned it takes one minute of jumping to burn the calories of a single piece of M&M candy. At top, Isaiah Geisler climbs through a tunnel as part of an obstacle course. At lower left, Olivia Mathews, Kylea Taylor, Raiden Stowell attempt to pass a hula hoop without touching it while holding hands. At lower right, Ayden McCullough catches a ball in an old milk jug.
