Allen County Area Retired School Personnel met Dec. 5 at Allen County Regional Hospital, with 25 members and guests Linda Garrett and Terry Lower.

Dan Willis, president of the USD 257 Board of Education, spoke about an upcoming referendum on whether to build a new elementary school in Iola, and what a facilities committee considered the best fit for students from Iola, Gas and LaHarpe.

The Iola middle and high school choirs, under direction of Elizabeth Cunningham, presented a Christmas concert. Glen Cunningham was the accompanist.

Charlene Levans recommended the group send donations to Humanity House, Hope Unlimited and the Pregnancy Resource Center. A total of $220, matched by another $220 from the club’s treasury, was donated as well.

The group affirmed the nominating committee’s recommendation of John Sheehan as vice president. President Paul Upshaw noted new board members need to be selected for next year. Nominating committee members Arvin Clemans, Don Walburn and Linda Brocker will select nominees for the Feb. 6 meeting.

The treasurer’s report showed a balance of $1,417.64 with $40 cash in hand.

Donna Houser provided the table decorations.

The next meeting will be at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 6, 2019 at Allen County Regional Hospital.
