Members of Iola Masonic Lodge #38 presented the Iola Public Library with a check for $500 before their meeting Tuesday evening. The funds will go towards the purchase of two drinking fountains that also feature bottle filling stations. One will be located in Iola Public Library, while the other will be for employees of the Southeast Kansas Library System who work in the same building.

The new drinking fountains are needed to help the library serve as a cooling station during hot summer months, explained public services librarian Melissa Smoot. With the Lodge’s donation, the library has now raised $1,600 of the $3,500 total cost. Smoot encouraged community members interested in supporting the cause to contact the library at 620-365-3262.

The Masons also donated to Wings of Warriors on Tuesday, presenting a $400 check to the non-profit organization that aids cancer patients. From left, Mike McCrate, Karla Capper, Robert Koester, Jessica Oswalt, Fred Apt, Mike Jay, Jay Stogsdill and Curtis Utley.Photo by Tim Stauffer / Iola Register
