IMS students take honors

Iola Middle School has announced its year-end awards and honor roll recipients. Special awards also went to eighth-graders who excelled in and out of the classroom.

Iola Middle School announced its year-end awards this week for the 2019-20 school year.

The American Legion Awards, presented to one eighth-grade girl and one eighth-grade boy, went to Abigail Meiwes and Japheth Rutoh.

They were selected based on a number of traits, from their academic standing, service in the school and community, as well as leadership and courage among their peers.

Briggs Michael and Shelby Peters received KSHSHAA Citizenship Awards for their demeanor in and out of the classroom.

Presidential Excellence Awards, presented to fifth- and eighth-graders, maintained a 3.5 grade-point average and scored well on state assessment and other placements tests went to:

Eighth grade — Rebekah Coltrane, Keira Fawson, Kendall Glaze, Rio Lohman, Kennedy Maier, Abigail Meiwes, Jaydon Morrison, Jenna Morrison and Japheth Rutoh. 

Fifth grade — Sophia Boyers, Caden Coltrane, Austin Crooks, Dally Curry, Ean DeLaTorre, Eli Dunne, Benjamin Fager, Lynsie Fehr, Annabelle Fernandez, Benjamen Heiman, Kinsey Jelinek, Raidyn Keeler, Alexis Lee, Brock Michael, Emma Michael, Alston Nelson, Kale Pratt, Amos Rutoh, Kaydra Scheibmeir, Stasia Strunk, Kaeden Vega and Joshua Wanker.

Presidential Achievement went to fifth- and eighth-graders who demonstrated growth and improvement in their academic pursuits went to:

Eighth grade — Jeremy Adair, Jennica Churning, Korbin Cloud, Kadence Gragg, Alexis Hannum, Meeka Harris, Zoey Lyons, Madelyn McVey, Briggs Michae, Taryn Parker, Shelby Peters, Drayden Reiter, Molly Riebel, Gage Skahan, Kalibre Smith and Karen Strunk.

Fifth grade — Marcelino Fuero, Joseph Holding, Denver Logan, Madelynn McDermeit, Lyndon McEnaney and Melody Norman. 

HONOR ROLLS

Principal Honor Roll – 4.0 GPA for the full school year.

Eighth grade — Keira Fawson, Rio Lohman, Abigail Meiwes, Jaydon Morrison, Shelby Peters, Japheth Rutoh and Landon Weide.
