A successful fundraiser Friday for Hope Unlimited will set the right tone for the entire year, director Dorothy Sparks said.

“This gets the momentum going for fundraising for the year, and allows us to raise matching funds for our grants,” Sparks said.

Hope Unlimited, which provides assistance and shelter to victims of domestic and sexual violence, offers its annual Winter Fest Wine Tasting & Culinary Event starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Piqua Knights of Columbus.

Participants can sample a dozen different wines, along with gourmet foods and desserts or non-alcoholic sparkling water and craft sodas.

New this year is a “Plant & Sip” activity, replacing the “Paint & Sip” event from years past. Attendees can sip their wine while planting a succulent to take home. Soil, plants and pots will be provided.

The silent auction also returns, offering numerous items including Kansas City Chiefs memorabilia. The auction typically includes a Kate Spade designer purse; this year, the auction includes two purses.

Other returning activities include the Wine Toss and Cork Pull stations, and music provided by a DJ service.

Individual tickets are available at the door for $20 or by calling 620-365-2016.
