HUMBOLDT — A trip to an air show for his birthday made quite an impact on Cooper Woods.

Woods was in the eighth grade when he saw the spectacle of the gleaming aircraft soaring overhead.

“Ever since then, I wanted to be in the Air Force,” Woods said.

Now, the Humboldt High School senior gets his chance.

Woods signed his commitment Thursday to enlist in the Air Force.

He departs for basic military training in San Antonio in July, followed by a stint in Biloxi, Miss., to study aviation resource management.

On hand for the signing were several family members and a room packed with fellow students, along with Air Force Sgt. Jordan Boston.

“Cooper’s a great kid,” Boston said. “He’s done everything we’ve asked of him. I’m proud of you for joining, and we’re proud to sign him.”

Woods is the son of Evette Woods and Chris and Kellee Woods.
