Think of it as a pub crawl, but with music.

That’s how Carri Sailor, owner of Rookies Sports Bar & Grill, describes the Downtown Music Tour, offered Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.

The event will encourage participants to visit three local venues for three very different music experiences.

First up, stop by Rookies from 2 to 4 p.m. for live music and activities. Performers include local musicians Casey Cook and Dillon Boren.

From 4 to 6, head over to the Elks Lodge, where Mike Jewell will lead a karaoke contest.

Then, the Time Out Tavern will offer a lip sync contest from 6 to 8. Prizes are available.

An after-party begins at 9 p.m. at the Time Out Tavern, with a $5 cover charge and music featuring From Ashes, Rage is my Rival, Splitting Emily and Soul Bliss.

Sailor said the event follows last year’s pub crawl, and is part of a larger plan to create a spring business festival.

Last year’s pub crawl featured five businesses. One of those businesses is no longer operating in Iola.

Last year’s event drew a crowd of about 70, with 12 teams competing in various events.

She hopes to draw a similarly sized crowd this year.

“I’m a big supporter of local music and I thought this would be a good way to get people out in the community,” Sailor said “And I’ve always wanted to participate in a lip sync contest, so here’s my opportunity.”
