Iola High School band and orchestra students competed at the KSHSAA Regional Solo and Small Ensemble Contest on Saturday, April 1. 

Students who earned a 1 Rating will compete at the State Solo and Small Ensembles Music Festival on April 29. 

Band results follow:

Saxophone Quartet: Kale Godfrey, Hallie McDermeit, Briley Prather, and Jesse Taylor (1 Rating). They qualified for state.

Jillian Ward, Clarinet Solo (1 Rating). She qualified for state. 

Bethany Miller, Trombone Solo (3 Rating)

Alyssa Williams, Trombone Solo (2 Rating)

Briley Prather, Alto Saxophone Solo (2 Rating)

Jackson Ulrich, Trumpet Solo (2 Rating) 

“Please congratulate these students when you see them,” band director Brandi Holt said.

“It takes a lot of courage to stand in front of a judge for the sole purpose of receiving critique of a performance. These kids work incredibly hard and their growth is inspiring.”

Two orchestra students also qualified for state solo music competition. 

Kalibre Smith and Keira Fawson, juniors, both took violin solos to the Regional Solo Competition April 1 and will compete at state in Andover on Saturday, April 29.
