HUMBOLDT — Humboldt’s water won’t be fluoridated. A petition calling for the City Council to put the matter to a vote was filed with the county clerk this week, but the number of signatures was insufficient.

Dan Willis, who coordinates pollution prevention at Iola’s Midland Brake plant, was awarded one of four Awards of Excellence given by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment at a recent conference on the environment at Wichita.

MORAN — On Sunday the First Presbyterian Church of Moran will celebrate 115 years of ministry. According to the early records of the city and the church the two share the same birthday. The early settlers gave priority to establishing churches and schools.

Leon and Dorothy Catron will represent the farm community and Susan and Gary Hoffmeier will represent city residents as grand marshals of the 25th annual Farm-City Days celebration.

City commissioners, after listening to Carroll Webber, owner of the Best Western Inn, said they would not increase the transient guest tax from 3 to 5 percent as had been proposed two weeks ago.
