Roger Carswell is the new director of Iola Public Library and the Southeast Kansas Library Systems. He replaces Ray Willson, who will retire in July.

Jean Barber soon will leave her desk in the Allen County clerk’s office for the last time. She decided last summer to retire and didn’t seek re-election in November.

Eric Copening, a 1965 graduate of Iola High School, will perform with the Bella Vista Big Band at the Bill Clinton inauguration ball in Washington, D.C. Copening, a pianist, has lived in the Bella Vista, Ark. area for some time. The band will also play in a benefit for the Friends of the Bowlus Fine Arts Center in Iola in September.

Allen County commissioners today completed arrangements that will lead to the opening of a senior citizens center in the Masonic Hall in LaHarpe.
