Historic RV company to close chapter in Chanute
CHANUTE NuWa Industries plans to downsize and end most of its operations in Chanute within the next month and a half, The Chanute Tribune reported. The company broke ground for its first camper-trailer manufacturing plant in Chanute in 1969. NuWa was one of four manufacturers who created the fifth wheel concept and one of the first to build glide rooms. The company ceased production of new RVs in 2008 and reduced employment, focusing more on repair and maintenance and sales of used RVs. The company currently employs about 52.
Sewer cleaning doubles blockages
FREDONIA A sewer cleaning project has increased the number of blockages in the sanitary sewer system, The Wilson County Citizen reported. Blockages doubled since the cleaning project began. An Oklahoma company working with the city to clean the lines has been called to chase down plugged pipe segments to the tune of $310 per hour, with total costs ranging from $45,000 to $80,000.
Drugs, guns found in police search of Parsons home
PARSONS About 7 pounds of packaged marijuana, $2,000 in cash, two 9 mm handguns and other drug-related items were recovered during a search of a Parsons home earlier this month, The Parsons Sun reported. One person was at the home during the search and was briefly detained before being released; the renter was not home at the time and is being sought by law enforcement. An anonymous tip on the departments website helped investigators key in on the house.
Eye doctor to open bowling alley, bar and grill in Ottawa
OTTAWA Dr. Ken Frank, a Westphalia native and Garnett High School graduate, plans to build a bowling alley and restaurant in Ottawa, The Anderson County Review reported. Frank and his wife, Shelly, will be primary owners along with a group of other Franklin County investors. The 12-lane bowling alley is slated to include a sports grill and bar with a party/event room and game room. Fusion Alley and the Prime Time Grille is planned for a South Ottawa building that previously was occupied by DIY Supply. Frank, an ophthalmologist, operates Frank Eye Center in Ottawa.
New commissioner appointed
CHANUTE Ed Rosenberger was appointed to fill a Chanute commission seat previously held by Randy Galemore, who moved outside the city limits, The Chanute Tribune reported. Rosenberger was one of seven applicants. He has owned Freds Treads since 2015 and is a pilot as well as aviation airframe and power plant mechanic.
