In a first-of-its-kind moment in Iola history, Monday’s City Council meeting will be broadcast live on Facebook.

That’s because city buildings, including the New Community Building at Riverside Park, remain off limits to the public due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Council meets in the Community Building.

In order to comply with the Kansas Open Meetings Act, the meeting will be available to anyone to watch and listen to via Facebook Live.

To access the meeting, visit www.facebook.com/cityofiolakansas/.

Public comments will not be taken during the meeting.

Those with questions or comments regarding Council actions can do so by reaching out to Mayor Jon Wells at [email protected] or Interim City Administrator Corey Schinstock at [email protected]. The public also may call 365-4900 to speak with a city official.

The Council meeting will be aired afterward on Cox Cable Channel 6 and posted on the City’s website following the meeting.

MONDAY’S agenda includes:

— The expected sale of what formerly was the remaining half of Cedarbrook Golf Course to developer Tom Carlson of Pointe Royale Development now that the golf course has closed for good.

— A discussion on whether the city will waive late fees as well as fees that would have been assessed if a utility customer’s service was slated for disconnection. (Disconnections are prohibited by the state through May 1 because of the pandemic.)

— An agreement with the Southwestern Power Pool in which the city will allocate a portion of the hydropower it purchases each year to Doniphan Electric.
