One of the core values of the Iola Public Library is to engage with the public.
Lucky for us, April provides us with lots of opportunities to do so.
The calendar is chock full of storytimes, play dates, virtual classes, egg hunts, and more.
Families are invited to Library Littles Storytime on Thursday, April 14, at 2 p.m. and an interactive Play Date on April 21 at 2 p.m.
For chess fans we are hosting a new all-ages chess club on Monday evenings at 6 o’clock.
All this week, adults and children can hunt for eggs hidden (in plain sight) throughout the library and maybe find one of the golden eggs!
On Wednesday, April 27, at 1 p.m. join us for the program “Soil & Your Health.” Pamela Tate, an environmental activist, will discuss the link between soil health and human health. Find out what you can do in your backyard and community to improve soil health.
You can join us in the library’s meeting room or view the program virtually at live.televeda.com/signup. Use referral ID “THRIVE21.”
Some folks have already discovered the new Seed Library where you can take home an assortment of up to 10 seed packets per visit. Seed packets will also be available at the Plant Swap and Seed Exchange at the Flewharty Annex Lawn on Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Collaboration with others is also a goal of the library.
In that vein, the library is working with Thrive Allen County and Televeda to provide virtual and live adult programs.
Televeda is an online source that empowers communities “to engage active adults through live events that support healthy aging, reduce social isolation, and improve healthy engagement.”
Sign up for free at televeda.com.
Local online programs include Wake Up with Yoga at 7 a.m. every Monday with Friends of the Library President Mary Ann Regehr.
Hayley Derryberry’s program on April 5, the Secrets to Sourdough Bread-Making, is available on demand.
Sign up for free at televeda.com. For the Thrive programs, look for the Thrive code on our website or on the program fliers.
The Friends of the Library Annual Meeting and Tea is at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 26. We encourage you to join. Basic membership is only $5.
