Iola City Council members will continue discussions Monday on the city’s policies regarding past-due utility bills and an upcoming evaluation of the Iola’s sanitary sewer system.
Also on the agenda is a request from Humanity House for its community garden to provide up to $1,000 worth of water for the 2020 growing season.
The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the New Community Building at Iola’s Riverside Park.
While all Council meeetings are open to the public, Mayor Jon Wells and Interim City Administrator Corey Schinstock are discouraging the public from attending, due to health concerns arising from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Wells said he will ask the Council members to suspend, for now, the opportunity for public comment sessions.
A statement on the city’s Facebook page said such restrictions have been endorsed by the Kansas attorney general’s office.
The meeting will be recorded and made available via the city’s YouTube channel. Media will be allowed to attend.
Those who wish to offer a comment to the city must do so via email or by calling 365-4900 during business hours.
Wells said the city is exploring ways to livestream future meetings.
