On Wednesday, Eugene and Leona Pool, rural Savonburg, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Eugene Pool and Leona White were married in Chanute on Jan. 12, 1951. They lived in Chanute until he was called to the U.S. Army in June of 1951. He spent 19 months in Japan and was discharged in 1953. The couple then moved to a farm near Humboldt. In 1955, they moved to their rural Savonburg farm with their daughter, Joyce (Pool) Allen, and son, Jerry Pool.
They continue to live on the farm near Savonburg. He farmed and worked at Monarch Cement Plant for 38 years retiring in 1989. She worked on the farm and as a homemaker.
They plan to celebrate their anniversary with their family.
The Pools have six grandchildren, Carissa (Allen) Brannan and her husband, Jason, Flint Allen and his wife, Kiley, Kayla (Allen) Brightman and her husband, Cole, Candace Cauble and her husband, Jacob, Brandi Ailer and Grant and Chad Pool. They also have six great-grandchildren.
