Buck and Dixie Quincy will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house from 2 to 6 p.m. Feb. 6 at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Martin Crist, 12 N. Cottonwood (the yellow house just south of the High School).
The couple were married at the United Methodist Church in Cawker City on Feb. 6, 1960. Dixie Brown was originally from Cawker City. She was escorted down the aisle by her father, Dr. J.R. Brown. Quincy was originally from Pawnee Rock.
The couple were introduced by his sister, LaVonne. Dixie taught school with LaVonne who thought that Buck and Dixie would make a good couple. They met shortly before Thanksgiving and were married less than three months later. Her parents were a little concerned, but supportive. Unlike most quickie marriages, this one has lasted and been an inspiration to their family. Shortly after they were married he accepted a teaching and coaching position in Iola, and they have made their home in Iola ever since.
The couple have four children, Gretchen Jacobs (1964-2005) and her husband, Gerald “Jake,” Stephanie (1965) and her husband, Martin Crist, Chris (1969), and Greg (1972) and his wife, Andrea. They have seven grandchildren, Brittney, Nick and Matt Jacobs, Jordan and Justin Quincy and Mitchell and Jillian Crist.
Friends, former students, athletes and colleagues are invited to attend.
