Large crowds flocked to downtown Iola Thursday for the first Allen County Farmers Market session of 2019.

The market runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. each Thursday on Jefferson Avenue along the courthouse square.

Specials this week include fresh-baked goods such as bread, decorated cookies, muffins, pies and sweet breads. Also for sale are chicken, beef, eggs, jams and jellies, hand-crafted walnut/oak/hickory wood bowls, cutting boards and rolling pins, as well as natural personal products.

Fresh produce selections include asparagus, arugula, beets, green onions, herbs, kale, lettuce, micro greens, radishes, sugar snap peas and zucchini.

Humboldt’s Saturday market runs from 8 to 11 a.m. on the downtown square.

Iola also offers a Tuesday market from 1 to 4:30 p.m. in the shopping plaza parking lot at 700 N. State St.

The farmers markets accept debit card payments. Buyers also are eligible to buy produce using EBT funds for the Double Up Food Bucks Program.

The Allen County Farmers Market is sponsored by From the Land of Kansas and the Health Forward Foundation.
