Family Footwear is the new name of Jacks Footwear, 13 W. Madison, and Bud McCrate will manage the shoe store. McCrate, well-known Iolan, started with the Economy Shoe Store 17 years ago and later was appointed manager of Harrisons Shoes. In July, 1957, he was transferred to Chanute where he has managed Harrisons Shoes until he resigned to accept the new position here.

Mack Colt, oil producer, won a sweeping victory in yesterdays mayoralty election. The industrial levy was approved, 775 to 681. The half-mill levy is for 10 years. The winners in the school board election were Richard Cook, Dr. Henry Bumgardner and Gerald Canatsey.

Earl I. Sifers, 66, candy and chocolate syrup manufacturer, died yesterday at Allen County Hospital following a long illness. Sifers was associated with his father in the management of the Sifers Candy Co. and managed it for the past 15-20 years. He was an ardent baseball fan and was president of the Iola Athletic Association which owned and managed the Iola Indians in the KOM Class D League. He was active in the Democratic Party and was a delegate to the national convention in 1948 when Harry Truman was nominated and then elected president. He was chairman of the hospital board of trustees which led the successful campaign to build the Allen County Hospital.
