YATES CENTER — Yates Center High’s Wildcats made it 5-for-5 Friday, crushing visiting Cedar Vale-Dexter 62-0.

The Wildcats wasted little time in asserting their dominance, leading 48-0 by the end of the first quarter.

The game ended at halftime, via Kansas eight-man mercy rules.

Senior quarterback Sean Hurst was a model of devastating efficiency. He threw a single pass, and it went for a touchdown.

And he ran twice, both times going for touchdowns. In all, he had 75 yards of total offense in the three attempts.

Fellow seniors Carter Burton and Jaron Morrison added 27 and 15 rushing yards, respectively. Cash Cummings had the team’s 20-yard touchdown reception.

Hurst also added an interception return for a touchdown, while Jayston Rice had a fumble recovery and touchdown.

Here’s where the fun begins.

Yates Center travels next Friday to fellow unbeaten Sedan for a titanic eight-man showdown, with the top spot in district play on the line.
