SEDAN — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcat softball team claimed a second-place trophy in a small tournament hosted by Sedan High School Thursday.
After making quick work of Sedan in a run-rule, four-inning game, the Wildcats went up against Caney Valley for the championship. Caney Valley shut the Wildcats down, winning 11-0 in six innings.
The Wildcats opened the 2010 season with a 15-1 win over Sedan. Shelby Norman pitched a two-hitter. She walked two and hit two batters plus struck out four.
Alysha Westhoff, Michelle Heskett and Cheyanne Miller each had two singles for Marmaton Valley. Jamee McEndree and Norman had a single each.
McEndree had four stolen basses and Westhoff had three stolen bases.
“Kailey Boyd had two great catches in center field and threw out a runner at second base,” said Brenda Mills, MVHS head coach. “I’m very proud of the team.”
Norman took the pitching loss against Caney Valley. She allowed seven hits, walked three and struck out nine.
Marmaton Valley was held to two singles, one each by McEndree and Miller.
Marmaton Valley’s schedule got shuffled around. The Wildcats go to Central Heights Monday then host Frontenac next Thursday and Yates Center on Friday.
