SEDAN — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcat volleyball team went 1-2 on the road Thursday.
The Wildcats lost to host Sedan High 25-12, 25-15. They dropped a 22-25, 25-22, 25-18 decision to Oswego, then bounced back to defeat Caney Valley High 14-25, 25-13, 25-22.
“I think the girls were still on the bus when we played Sedan. They woke up and took Oswego to three sets coming up short,” said Lindsay Ermel, MVHS head coach.
“We went three sets with Caney and came out with a win. I’ve found our girls like to make matches interesting.”
On the night, Kailey Boyd delivered 13 kills and 16 digs for the Wildcats. Kaitlin Ensminger had nine kills and served a combined 35 times for points. Emily Meiwes had 39 serves for points.
Molly McEwan and Lydia Lance combined for 41 set assists. Ermel said Kacie Shadden and Kaysha Elmenhorst played well on the back row and Tapanga Turner had a strong night on the front row making some big plays.
“We did an exceptional job adjusting to the other teams. We are starting to see the floor much better, finding open spaces to place the ball,” Ermel said.
Marmaton Valley goes to Mound City Tuesday to play Jayhawk-Linn High.
