YC Wildcat girls ousted in 2-1A state softball

PRATT — Yates Center High’s softball team saw its season come to an end Thursday, via a 6-1 loss to McLouth in the opening round of the Class 2-1A State Tournament.
The Wildcats were done in by a four-run third inning, in which McLouth took advantage of a pair of miscues, three hits and a walk.
The outburst gave the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead.
Yates Center scored its only run after Katelyn Jones walked and scored on Asia Larson’s RBI single in the bottom of the third.
McLouth’s Shannan Greene was dominant from the pitcher’s circle, allowing only two hits while striking out 12.
Aubrey Smith saw her decorated high school career come to an end with the loss. She surrendered 11 hits and a walk while striking out six.
Jones also had a double for Yates Center’s only other hit.
Yates Center wound up with a 19-5 record.
In Friday’s semifinals, McLouth went on to lose to eventual champion Chase County, 10-0, but rebounded to edge Moundridge, 6-5, to take third place.
As an aside, Chase County won its three games by a cumulative 29-0 score.
