The brackets and seeding for the 2017 sub-state volleyball tournaments were released on Wednesday and multiple area teams found themselves with a high seed.
Humboldt (19-14) is the two seed in the 3A Wellsville sub-state tournament. The Lady Cubs will take on Central Heights at 2 p.m. to open up the tournament and will need to eventually beat the number one seed and host Wellsville to make a return trip to the state tournament at White Auditorium in Emporia.
Southern Coffey County (23-12) has probably been the most successful area team so far this season and will be the second seed in the 1A-DI Chetopa sub-state tournament. They will have a bye in the first round and will take on Rosalia-Flint Hill in the second round.
Marmaton Valley (19-17) is the fourth seed in the same bracket and will take on a St. Paul team that’s won just five matches so far this season.
The Lady Wildcats will play at 2 p.m. and will play one seed Chetopa if they win. The Lady Titans will follow right after.
Yates Center is the only area team hosting a sub-state tournament and is the three seed in that tournament. They will play six seed Uniontown at their East Gym after the 2 p.m. opening match of Oswego and West Elk.
Crest (8-26) will compete in the 1A-DII Marais Des Cygnes Valley sub-state tournament and is the three seed despite their record. They will have an opening round bye and will play in the third match of the day versus Waverly.
Last but not least, the Iola Fillies (9-18) will be competing in the 4A Burlington sub-state tournament as the fourth seed. They will open up the tournament at 2 p.m. versus one seed and tournament host Burlington at 2 p.m.
The 1A teams will play at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays if they make it to state. Yates Center will play at White Auditorium and Iola will play at Tony’s Pizza Event Center in Salina if they advance past sub-state.
