Marmaton Valley tops Jayhawk-Linn

MORAN — Marmaton Valley was able to pick up its eighth win of the season on Tuesday when it knocked off Jayhawk-Linn in three sets.
The Wildcats got off to a great start with a first set victory, 25-22, over the Jayhawks. Jayhawk-Linn struck back in the second set with a 25-21 victory.
In the third and decisive set, Marmaton Valley left very little doubt with a 25-12 win to take the set and the match.
Senior Kyla Drake led the team with 12 kills and fellow senior Misty Storrer added eight kills. Junior Mckayla Brooks had seven kills.
Senior Taryn Covey led the team with 11 points from the service line. Sophomore Karlie Stephens and junior Trinitee Guiterrez each had 10 service points.
The Wildcats struggled in their second match of the day against Oswego when they suffered a 25-15, 25-13 straight-set loss.
The third match of the day featured Marmaton Valley and Pleasanton and went three sets. Pleasanton came out on top with victories in the first and third sets.
Storrer led the team with seven kills. Drake added five kills and Shayla Brooks had four with two blocks.

JUNIOR VARSITY
Marmaton Valley’s junior varsity went 2-0 on Tuesday with wins over Oswego and Pleasanton.
They lost the first set to Oswego, but rallied for wins in the second and third sets.
The Wildcats dominated Pleasanton and won 25-11 and 25-5.
Rachel Shaffer led the Wildcats with 12 kills. Kari Shadden had nine kills while Bailey Griffith and Emily Smart added eight and seven kills respectively.
