TOPEKA — Rain washed out many of the state baseball and softball tournaments for Kansas high schools including Iola’s baseball and Humboldt’s softball teams.
Iola was scheduled to play its first game against Baxter Springs in the Class 4A-II State Baseball Tournament at Hummer Sports Complex in Topeka at 1 p.m. Thursday. If they had won, they would have been guaranteed to finish in the top-four in their class and scheduled to play two games on Friday.
Now, their game is postponed until 1 p.m. Sunday. If they win, they will play at 10 a.m. on Monday between the winner of Rock Creek and Colby. Due to the rescheduling, the potential third-place game has been canceled.
Humboldt’s softball team was scheduled to play Lyons/Chase High School in first round action of the Class 3A State Softball Tournament at Twin Oaks Complex in Manhattan at 5 p.m. on Thursday. If they had won, they would have been guaranteed to finish in the top-four of their class and play two games on Friday.
The Lady Cubs will have to wait until noon on Sunday for the rescheduled game. If they win, they will play a semi-final matchup with the winner of Silver Lake and Haven at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The championship game will be at 11 a.m. on Monday.
Just like in Iola’s tournament, there will not be a third place game.
