Because Burlington High School was the only school to travel to Iola on Monday, the Fillies JV volleyball team decided to play the Wildcats in a best-of-five set matchup rather than the usual three-set match that JV squads normally play.
But Iola High needed just four sets to defeat Burlington at home (25-18, 23-25, 25-16, 25-20).
Riley Murray was the most effective weapon for the Fillies on offense, recording a team-high eight kills on the day.
Katelynn Olsten and Jayden Sigg were Iola’s second leading hitters with four kills each.
Olsten proved to be an effective facilitator as well against Burlington, recording 10 assists in just four sets of work.
No other Iola player had more than four assists.
Murray showed off her defensive skills on top of her eight-kill performance by recording two blocks.
