Joseph R. Myer, 87, Battlefield, Mo., passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013, in Missouri Veterans Home, Mt. Vernon, Mo., with his family by his side. He was born June 30, 1926, in Iola to Homer H. and Ella Martin Myer.
He graduated from Iola High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the State of Kansas, Right of Way Department. Joseph was a past commander of American Legion Post 15, Iola, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Isaac and Homer Jr.
Joseph was married to Ida Belle Hamilton for 66 years. He is survived by his wife, Ida Belle, Battlefield, Mo.; two sons and their wives, Jerry Myer, Tampa, Fla., and Scott Myer, Springfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 3, 2013, in Highland Cemetery, Iola, with Father John Miller officiating. Online condolences may be left at gormanscharpf.com.
