Jean Capell

Marjorie Jean Capell, 89, Iola, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola.
She was born Aug. 12, 1925, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of John R. and Ollie O. (Forward) Capell, Sr. She graduated from Wyandotte High School and Kansas City Kansas Junior College. Jean received a bachelor’s degree from Ottawa University and then later a master’s degree from the University of Wyoming. She moved to Iola in 1947. Jean taught first grade at McKinley Elementary School for six years and then English at Iola Middle School before retiring in 1985. After retiring she enjoyed traveling with her friend, Bonnie Kirby. Bonnie preceded her in death in 2004. Jean was a member of the National Teachers Association, Kansas Teachers Association, Allen County Retired Teachers Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma.
She was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters. She is survived by her nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at a later date in Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens located in Kansas City, Kan.
Memorials are suggested to the Iola Public Library and can be left with Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel who is in charge of arrangements.
